How often should I have my furnace serviced?
Once per year, ideally in early fall before the heating season begins. An annual tune-up includes cleaning the heat exchanger, checking the igniter and burners, testing safety controls, and verifying airflow. The cost is $129, or $199 for a combined furnace and AC tune-up.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
If the repair cost exceeds 50% of the replacement cost and the system is over 15 years old, replacement is typically the better investment. We assess both options, including any rebates that apply, and give you the numbers before recommending anything.
Are there rebates available for heat pump installation in Berkeley?
The federal 30% tax credit for heat pumps, up to $2,000, covered improvements made through December 31, 2025, so it does not apply to systems installed in 2026. Some local utilities offer heat pump rebates. MCE, for example, offers up to $400 per 500 square feet in communities it serves, such as El Cerrito and Richmond.
