The tenant in the customer’s rental had no heat — the thermostat worked but the wall heater didn’t. The original 1960s unit had no identification tags for parts replacement, so a repair wasn’t viable. We replaced it with a Williams gravity-vent wall furnace, new venting, and a new digital thermostat. The customer was satisfied enough that he later had us retrofit a second apartment with the same system.

Common Questions

Furnace Installation — FAQ

How long does furnace installation take?

Most furnace replacements are completed in a single day. The timeline depends on the complexity of the installation — straightforward replacements typically take 4–6 hours. If ductwork modifications or gas line work is required, we’ll let you know before the job begins.

Do you pull permits for furnace installation in Berkeley?

Yes. Furnace installation in Berkeley and most East Bay jurisdictions requires a permit. We handle the permit application process as part of every installation. All work is inspected and meets local code requirements.

What happens to my old furnace?

We remove and dispose of your existing furnace as part of the installation. You don’t need to arrange disposal separately.

Is a high-efficiency furnace worth it in the Bay Area?

Berkeley’s mild climate means heating systems run fewer hours than colder regions, which reduces the payback period advantage of high-efficiency systems. That said, 96%+ AFUE furnaces cost less to operate year over year. We’ll give you the numbers on both options so you can decide.

Does furnace installation qualify for federal tax credits?

No. The federal Section 25C credit, up to $600 for a qualifying gas furnace and up to $2,000 for a heat pump, covered improvements made through December 31, 2025, so it does not apply to systems installed in 2026. We identify any rebates that apply during the estimate process. See current East Bay rebates.

Do I need to replace my ductwork when I install a new furnace?

Not necessarily. We inspect your existing ductwork during the site assessment. If ducts are in good condition and properly sized, we connect the new furnace to the existing system. If duct repairs or modifications are needed, we’ll include that in the written quote before any work begins.

Ready to Replace Your Furnace?

Written quote before any work begins. 10-year parts warranty on every installation. Serving Berkeley and the East Bay since 1929.
