Ductwork Replacement and Repair

Leaky, crushed or asbestos-wrapped ducts waste the heat and cooling you pay for. We replace and seal ductwork, on its own or as part of a new furnace or heat pump.

Recent Projects

Ductwork We Have Replaced

Kensington: a 1970 system with asbestos ductwork was replaced with new fabricated ductwork and a Carrier Infinity modulating furnace.

Berkeley: a Payne furnace installed with new attic ductwork for an energy-efficient heating system.

When to Replace

Signs Your Ducts Need Work

  • Rooms that never get warm or cool while others do
  • Dust building up quickly after cleaning
  • Ducts in the attic or crawl space that are crushed, disconnected or uninsulated
  • Old ducts wrapped in material that may contain asbestos

New Equipment

Do You Need New Ducts With a New Furnace?

Not always. At every furnace and heat pump estimate we inspect the existing ductwork and tell you in writing whether it can be reused, sealed or should be replaced. Read more in our furnace installation guide.

Ducts and New Equipment

Ducts Matter for Heat Pumps

Heat pumps move air at steadier, lower temperatures than gas furnaces, so they depend on ductwork that is sized right and sealed. When a home switches from a furnace to a ducted heat pump, we check that the ducts can carry the airflow, and quote any changes up front.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replace asbestos ductwork?

Yes. The Kensington project above replaced asbestos ductwork with new fabricated ducts as part of a new furnace installation.

Is duct sealing worth it?

Sealing leaks keeps heated and cooled air in the rooms you pay to condition. We check the ducts at your estimate and quote sealing or replacement where it pays off.

How long does ductwork replacement take?

It depends on how much of the system is replaced and how accessible the attic or crawl space is. The written quote states the scope and schedule.

Do I need new ducts for a heat pump?

Not always. Many existing duct systems work with a heat pump. We check size and condition at the estimate and tell you in writing.
