The Manufacturer’s Warranty
Factory Coverage by Brand
Carrier
Furnaces, central air conditioners and heat pumps in homes: 10 years on parts for the original owner, with no registration needed in California. A later owner gets 5 years. Value-tier ductless systems get 5 years. Parts only, not labor, unless you choose Carrier’s 5 years of parts plus 3 years of labor through a participating dealer within 90 days of installation (not available on new construction). Carrier warranty, Carrier furnace warranty.
Bosch
In a one- or two-family home: inverter heat pumps get 10 years on parts for the original buyer, plus a 90-day labor allowance if you register online within 90 days. Climate 5000 mini-splits get 7 years on parts and 10 on the compressor, or 10 years on parts if registered within 90 days. BGH97 gas furnaces get 5 years on parts for the original buyer, or 10 if registered within 60 days. The Climate 5000 and BGH97 warranties say not registering doesn’t reduce coverage where the law forbids making a warranty depend on registration. A licensed HVAC contractor has to install and maintain the equipment. Bosch warranties.
Mitsubishi Electric
Heat pumps and air conditioners: 5 years on parts and 7 on the compressor, or 10 years on both while the original buyer lives in the home they own, with no registration needed in California. Parts only, not labor, and Mitsubishi Electric can ask for proof of the maintenance your manual calls for. Mitsubishi Electric warranty.
Navien
NPE-A2 tankless water heaters used for hot water in homes (not also for space heating), with standard or controlled recirculation: a 1-year labor allowance, 5 years on parts and 15 years on the heat exchanger. Navien warranty.
Our Warranty
Our Labor Warranty
If something about our installation work isn’t right, we fix it at no labor charge for 3 years from the day we finish, or 5 years if the system gets a tune-up every year without missing one. It covers our workmanship, not the equipment or its parts, and not work done by others. The full terms are in your contract.
Who Stands Behind It
A Warranty Is Only as Good as the Company Behind It
In business since 1929. Owner Jason Hanson runs the company himself. A long warranty is only worth something if the company that wrote it is still around to honor it: An 18-Year HVAC Warranty: Who Will Be There to Honor It?
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What warranty comes with a new furnace, air conditioner or heat pump?
Two. The manufacturer covers the equipment’s parts; Carrier, for example, covers parts on its furnaces, central air conditioners and heat pumps in homes for 10 years for the original owner. We cover our installation work for 3 years, or 5 with a tune-up every year.
Does the manufacturer’s warranty cover labor?
Usually not. Carrier covers parts only unless you choose its parts-and-labor option through a participating dealer. Bosch pays a labor allowance for 90 days on registered inverter heat pumps, Navien’s NPE-A2 pays one for 1 year, and Mitsubishi Electric pays none. Our warranty covers our own installation work.
Do I have to register my HVAC equipment in California?
Not for Carrier’s 10-year parts term or Mitsubishi Electric’s 10-year term. Bosch’s longer terms need registration within 60 or 90 days, though its warranties say skipping it doesn’t reduce coverage where the law forbids that. We register your equipment when we install it.
What keeps an HVAC warranty in force?
Maintenance as your owner’s manual describes. Bosch requires a licensed contractor to do it, and Mitsubishi Electric can ask for proof. A tune-up every year also extends our labor warranty from 3 years to 5.
Does an HVAC warranty transfer when I sell my house?
It depends on the maker. Carrier usually gives a later owner 5 years. Bosch’s inverter heat pump and BGH97 furnace warranties cover only the original buyer. Mitsubishi Electric’s doesn’t transfer at all in California.
