Recent Installations
Two recent central heat pump projects we completed in the East Bay.
Carrier Infinity Variable-Speed Heat Pump — Oakland, CA
The customer wanted higher efficiency and lower utility bills, with concerns about indoor air quality. We installed a Carrier Infinity Variable-Speed Heat Pump with Greenspeed Technology, paired with a Carrier Infinity Air Handler and Air Purifier. The existing ductwork was modified and supplemented with custom new ductwork to accommodate the system and improve airflow throughout the house. The outdoor unit was placed in a discreet location and a Carrier Infinity Touch control completed the installation.
Mitsubishi 2-Zone Heat Pump + IQAir Perfect 16 — Berkeley Duplex
The customer wanted to convert her 1946 duplex to a more environmentally friendly system, with concerns about indoor air quality. We installed a Mitsubishi ducted 2-zone heat pump with two ducted air handlers, replacing the 20-year-old wall furnaces on each side. New ductwork was fabricated to handle the system, and an IQAir Medical Grade Perfect 16 filtration unit was integrated into each side’s ductwork. The Perfect 16 filters ultrafine particles including viruses and bacteria. Each side of the duplex now has heating, air conditioning, and high-grade air filtration.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does heat pump installation cost in Berkeley?
Aarvaks heat pump installations start at $17,000 for a single-zone central system. Final cost depends on home square footage, whether existing ductwork can be used, and the equipment tier selected. A written estimate is provided before any work begins — no commitment required to get a quote.
What factors affect heat pump installation cost?
Four factors drive most of the variation: (1) Home square footage — larger homes require more capacity. (2) Ductwork condition — serviceable existing ducts avoid the cost of new duct runs; no ducts means a ductless or ducted mini-split configuration. (3) Number of zones — a multi-zone system costs more than a single-zone central installation. (4) Equipment tier — variable-speed inverter systems cost more upfront but operate more efficiently over time. Aarvaks provides an itemized written estimate before any work begins.
What federal tax credits are available for heat pump installation in 2026?
None. The federal Section 25C credit, 30% of the cost up to $2,000 for a qualifying heat pump, covered improvements made through December 31, 2025, so it does not apply to systems installed in 2026.
What rebates are available for heat pump installation in Berkeley?
Rebate availability and amounts change. Some local utilities offer heat pump rebates. MCE, for example, offers up to $400 per 500 square feet in communities it serves, such as El Cerrito and Richmond. Aarvaks can point you to current programs at the time of your estimate. See current East Bay rebates.
What’s the process for heat pump installation?
Aarvaks follows a six-step process: (1) Load calculation to size the system correctly. (2) Written equipment recommendation and itemized quote. (3) Permit pulling where required. (4) Installation day — removal of old equipment, air handler and outdoor unit installation, electrical connections, and thermostat setup. (5) Full commissioning with refrigerant charge verification. (6) Written post-installation report with system settings and warranty registration. Most single-zone installations are completed in one day.
How do I find the right heat pump installer near me?
Look for three things: manufacturer authorization (Carrier Authorized Dealers must meet training and service standards), a CSLB license (California requires C-20 HVAC licensing for this work), and transparent pricing — any installer unwilling to provide a written itemized estimate before work begins is a red flag. Aarvaks holds CSLB License #1146520, is a Carrier Authorized Dealer, and has served Berkeley and the East Bay since 1929. Call 510-848-5010 or book an estimate online.
