Frequently Asked Questions

Which HVAC rebate programs are available in the East Bay and North Bay in 2026?

MCE lists a heat pump rebate of up to $400 per 500 sq ft in all of Marin and Napa counties, 16 Contra Costa County communities, and Benicia, Fairfield, Vallejo and unincorporated Solano County, installed by a contractor enrolled in MCE’s program. Albany and Piedmont have income-qualified city rebates — see our Albany and Piedmont pages. Ava Community Energy has an incentive lookup tool for Alameda County addresses. Carrier Cool Cash offers up to $2,100 on qualifying Carrier heating or cooling products purchased August 1, 2026 through November 20, 2026. The federal 25C tax credit, the TECH Clean California and HEEHRA single-family incentives, and BayREN’s heat pump rebate have ended or are fully reserved.

Is the federal HVAC tax credit still available in 2026?

No. The Section 25C credit was 30% of qualified expenses, up to $2,000 a year for heat pumps, and it covered improvements made through December 31, 2025. If you installed a qualifying heat pump in 2025, file IRS Form 5695 with your 2025 tax return to claim the credit.

What is the difference between Ava Community Energy and MCE?

They are separate community choice aggregators. Ava Community Energy serves Berkeley, Oakland, Albany, Piedmont, Emeryville, and other cities in Alameda County; MCE serves all of Marin and Napa counties, 16 Contra Costa County communities including El Cerrito and Richmond, and Benicia, Fairfield, Vallejo and unincorporated Solano County. PG&E delivers the electricity for both, and each provider runs its own programs.

Which rebates apply in Vacaville, Dixon, Suisun City and Rio Vista?

These Solano County cities are not MCE communities and buy electricity from PG&E, so MCE’s heat pump rebate does not apply, and PG&E’s rebates page lists no residential heat pump HVAC rebate. Manufacturer rebates do not depend on your electricity provider, and we confirm any active offer at your estimate.

Can I stack multiple HVAC rebates?

Each program sets its own rules on combining with other rebates. We confirm what can be combined for your project at the time of your estimate so the savings are factored into the total before any work begins.

Are there rebates for AC or furnace replacement, not just heat pumps?

Utility heat pump rebates such as MCE’s are for heat pump systems. Carrier Cool Cash applies to qualifying Carrier heating or cooling products. We confirm what applies to your specific equipment at the estimate.

What is the BayREN EASE program and who qualifies?

BayREN’s EASE Home program covers 80% of the cost of essential weatherization upgrades such as insulation and duct sealing, so your share is capped at 20% of the project cost. It’s for PG&E customers with household income at or under 120% of area median income who live in a single-family home (four or fewer units) built before 2010. Heat pump HVAC equipment may have to be paid for in full, though BayREN can help with rebate applications. Call (866) 998-8655 or visit bayren.org.
