How Long Does HVAC Installation Take?

Most standard replacements are finished in one day. The schedule grows with the scope: new ductwork, electrical upgrades, multiple zones or a switch from gas to a heat pump take longer.

Typical Timelines

  • Gas furnace replacement: most are completed the same day.
  • Single-zone ductless mini-split: typically one day.
  • Multi-zone mini-split: longer, depending on the number of indoor units and line set routing.
  • Heat pump replacing a furnace and AC: depends on the electrical and duct work; your quote states the schedule.

What Adds Time

  • New or modified ductwork
  • An electrical panel upgrade or new circuit
  • Permits and inspections, which follow the city or county schedule
  • Equipment that has to be ordered

Before Install Day

What Happens on Install Day

  1. The crew protects floors and work areas and shuts off power and gas to the old system.
  2. The old equipment is removed and taken away.
  3. The new equipment is set, connected to gas, electric, refrigerant lines and ducts as needed.
  4. The system is started, tested and checked for safe operation, including carbon monoxide checks on gas equipment.
  5. The thermostat is set up and you are shown how to use the system.

How to Prepare

  • Clear a path to the furnace, attic access or outdoor unit location.
  • Plan for someone to be home to let the crew in and review the finished work.
  • Keep pets away from open doors and work areas.

Permits and Inspections

Most furnace, AC and heat pump replacements need a permit. We apply for it where required. The inspection is scheduled with the city or county after installation, and an inspector checks the work.

Every job starts with an in-home assessment and a load calculation, then a written quote. Installation is scheduled once you approve it. Book an estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be without heat during a furnace replacement?

For most same-day replacements, only during the work itself. We schedule so the new furnace is running before we leave.

Does a permit delay the installation?

The installation can usually go ahead; the inspection follows on the jurisdiction’s schedule. We apply for the permit where required.

Do I need to be home during installation?

Someone needs to let the crew in and be available at the end to review the system. You do not need to be home the entire time.
